1860s Day Dress - 2014
This was the first historical clothing piece I ever made, the first iteration of which I made for the 2010 'Trail Days' event put on by the California Trail Historical Interpretive Center in Elko, NV.
Since then I have re-made parts such as the bodice and sleeves as I grew, needed to fit over new undergarments, or my skills and knowledge improved and I wanted it to meet my higher standards.
I used the book 'The Dressmaker's Guide 1840-1865' by Elizabeth Stewart Clark to design and make the dress, using period correct sewing and construction techniques. The whole outfit includes shifts, drawers, petticoats, a steel-boned corset, the dress, and a collection of decorative accessories such as collars and cuffs, belts, bows, and hair pieces.
